Week at a Glance, December 11-15

Dear WDS Families, thank you for your generous donations to Project Kindness. The holiday cards created by you added to the spirit of the season and further demonstrated our care for others in our community.  Your kindness allowed us to support many WDS families. We are so grateful for your generosity and your Care for Others in our school community. Next week is the last week of school before winter break. We encourage students to wear their winter festive or cultural attire throughout the week.

Traffic Concerns and Pedestrian Safety

We have received several traffic safety concerns involving WDS.

We must all work together to ensure pedestrians are safe on the roads and pathways near our schools. Children are always watching, and traffic safety is a shared responsibility.

Please review the following safety tips:

  • Patience is required in school zones. These are busy places in the mornings and at afternoon dismissal when many families are using sidewalks, shared pathways, crosswalks, and intersections.
  • Pedestrians should only cross the street at a marked crosswalk or at a corner. Look in all directions, then point, pause, and proceed after making sure it is safe to do so.
  • When dropping off and picking up their children, caregivers should choose a safe place to stop and park respecting all signs, traffic laws, and by-laws. Parking a block away and then walking is a great option.
  • Choose safety over convenience; choose to keep students safe.

Learning Commons News

Ms. May, our Library Assistant, wanted to share some great news about student reading in the WDS community. Students have read another 500 books! Wow, that brought us to 1500 so far since the start of the school year. Keep up the great reading!
