Dear WDS Families,
This week we had another busy week at WDS. We had the Muffin Mixer on Thursday, thank you to all families who attended this event. The muffin mixer was possible due to our dedicated school council members, parent/guardian volunteers and generous donations from COBs Bakery Northland and Crowfoot. We had to postpone our 1st practice fire drill of the year until Monday due to the weather. We also held our annual Terry Fox Assembly and Run on Friday. A special thank you to Ms. Palichuk, Ms. Pearson, Mrs. Glowacki and Ms. Minnis for helping to organize this event. Another big thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped during the Terry Fox Run.
Staffing Updates
We are excited to announce that Ms. Moore will be returning from leave on September 23 and Ms. Prawdzik’s last day will be September 23. A special thank you to Ms. Prawdzik for supporting our students, families and the school community since the beginning of the school year. We also wanted to let you know that Ms. Jodie (lunchroom supervisor) has decided to resign to spend more time with her family.

Meet the Teacher Conferences
We will be holding our Meet the Teacher conferences on September 26 (3:00 pm to 7:30 pm) and September 27 (8:00 am to 12:00 pm). Families will sign up for a 10-minute block of time to meet with their child’s teacher, see the classroom, and share about their child/children. If your child is on an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) or in Enhanced Educational Supports (EES) your child's homeroom teacher will contact parents/guardians to pre-book a meeting time.
To book a time for Meet the Teacher Conferences, go to the MyCBE Conference Booking System. This will open on Thursday, Sept 19 at 8:00 am
If you have not created your MyCBE Account, please take the time to go online and create one. This is what you use to sign up for our upcoming Conferences in September as well allow you to pay fees online.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We do not have school on September 30 so we will recognize the went the week of September 20 by wearing orange and hosting “Circle Friday” on September 20 with students.
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The day honors the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
