Week at a Glance October 23-27
Netball
Our first Physical Education residency was Netball which was held this week from October 23-27. It was a huge success and students learned about game strategy, positioning, and teamwork. The lockdown practice was held and students and staff followed the plan perfectly.
Halloween
Halloween is on Tuesday, October 31. Students are encouraged, if they wish, to dress in costume on this day. Students will come to school dressed in Halloween costumes. Masks cannot be worn at school, and we ask that accessories (swords, light sabers, brooms, wands, etc), to be kept at home. We are asking parents not to send treats as we have many allergies and food sensitivities. Even though this day will be exciting and full of fun, it is still a day of learning, and we ask parents to speak to their children about this.
Staff Parking Lot
Our parking lot is designated for our staff only. If your child attends before and after care, parents must park on the street. When being dropped off or picked up students must not walk through the staff parking lots. Please walk on the grass or sidewalks.
Remembrance Day Assembly
West Dalhousie School will be holding our Remembrance Day Assembly on Wednesday, November 8 beginning at 10:30 am. This assembly will recognize and honour the importance of Remembrance Day. WDS families are welcome to attend- doors will open at 10:20 am for seating. Students who are in Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Guides or Cadets are encouraged to wear their uniforms for this special assembly.
Lockdown Drill
We held a highly successful Lockdown drill this past week. Students and staff followed our safety plan and practiced what to do in case of an emergency in our school. Please know that if you arrive at the school and no one answers the door or the outside bell is ringing continuously, it could signal that there is a problem within the school, and you should stay away at a safe distance.
No Dogs on School Property
A reminder to our school community that, according to City of Calgary Bylaw on Responsible Pet Ownership dogs are not permitted on school grounds or around playgrounds.
Dressing Appropriately for Weather:
On cold weather days please ensure your child comes to school with snow boots, hats, mittens and a snow jacket, ski pants and rainwear and an umbrella if it is raining. If the temperature or wind chill is below -20°C or it is raining very hard, students will stay indoors. Students should be dressed to go outside for recess, lunch, and physical education classes. We find that many children do not dress warmly enough for the cold temperatures. Dressing your child in layers of clothing will allow them to adapt their comfort to the existing weather conditions.
