Dear WDS Families,
This week we had another wonderful week at WDS. We had our Grade 5/6 students share their research on a variety of scientists during their wax museum celebration of learning. Thank you to the grade 5/6 teachers and students for sharing your knowledge with us.
We also had our impactful Remembrance Day Ceremony on Thursday. A special thank you to the MCs and all the students and teachers who contributed to this important event. Thank you to all the families who attended this event. A special thank you to Master Sailor Sheppard, the bugler who performed at the ceremony.
Lost and Found
We currently have many items in our lost and found. As a reminder, please make sure to label all clothing items (hats, mitts, boots, hoodies, jackets) so they can be easily returned to their owners. Stop by WDS over the next few weeks and check out the lost and found items. We are hoping to reunite these items with their owners.
*A reminder that November Break is from November 11-13. There will be no school for students on these days. Students will return to school on November 14.
Drop Off and Pick Up
A reminder that all students must enter and leave their assigned grade doors each day. Only students in Enhanced Education Support (EES) or Kindergarten should enter the main doors in the morning. All doors are open between 7:50 am and 7:55 am. Students late for school will come through the main doors and check in with the office staff.
Hindu Heritage Month - Namaste!
November is recognized across Canada as Hindu Heritage Month, which is a time to honour the rich traditions, culture, and contributions of the Hindu community in Canada. In Alberta, it is recognized in the month of August. With close to 830,000 persons identifying as part of the Hindu community in Canada, this is a time to learn about the significant role they have had in shaping the nation's multicultural identity. This is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions across the economy, culture, arts, politics, vitality of the Canadian Hindu community and celebrating the mosaic of cultures that enrich the nation.
Winter Concert: Save the Date
This year we will have a winter concert with a theme based on the book “Twinkle, Twinkle Winter Night” by Megan Litwin. The concert will be held in the school gymnasium on December 12 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and all students will be displaying their musical talents at this event. Please save the date in your calendar as we would like all families and their children to attend.
Learning Conferences
We have our Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 28 from 3:00 pm–7:30 pm and November 29 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Families will sign up for a 15-minute block of time to meet with their child’s teacher and learn more about their child’s learning progress.
