Dear WDS Families,
This week, the Grade 5/6 students attended a field trip at the Hanger Museum to learn about the 4 forces of flight and rocket propulsion. The weather was cool this week, but the students were able to get outside and enjoy all the snow and winter weather.
Staffing News Grade 5/6
Mr. Gutierrez-Medina’s Grade 5/6 teacher leave has been extended until Dec. 20 and his expected return date to WDS is Jan. 6, 2025. Mr. McGowan’s last day at WDS will be Friday, Nov. 29. We want to thank him for his great work at WDS and his presence will be greatly missed. We are delighted to welcome Ms. Madeline Stephenson, our Grade 5/6 guest teacher from Dec. 2-20, 2024, while Mr. Gutierrez-Medina is on leave. To ensure a smooth transition Ms. Stephenson was in the school this week getting to know the students and staff members.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thank you to all the parents/guardians who attended the learning conferences, we appreciate your support of your child's learning.
Scholastics Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair was an enormous success. Thank you to Ms. May and the volunteers who helped with the book fair. All profits made from this event will be used to purchase more books for WDS Learning Commons.
Project Kindness
This week your child brought home information about our “Warm Winter Wishes” holiday initiative. All WDS students created greeting cards, an envelope will be going home on Monday. Students are asked to decorate the envelope at home. If you can add a gift card to the envelope that is appreciated but not required. All cards in the envelope provided need to be returned to the school no later than Monday, Dec. 9 (even if you are unable to make a gift card donation). Know that adding warm wishes and kind thoughts to the envelope is a way to show support and kindness to others.
Winter Concert Information
This year we will have a winter concert based on the book “Twinkle, Twinkle Winter Night” by Megan Litwin on Dec. 12 from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM. The concert will be held in the school gymnasium on December 12 at 6:30 PM. We are asking all students to be at the school and enter through the main doors at 6:15 PM. Once students arrive, they will be going to their classroom, and families will proceed to the gymnasium. If it is snowy or muddy outside, we will be asking all audience members and performers to remove their shoes upon arrival. Please save the date in your calendar as we encourage all families and their children to attend.
