Dear WDS Families, Happy New Year! We are so excited to have students back in school and look forward to an incredible year of learning in 2025. A reminder that we ask all students to be dropped off in the mornings between 7:45 am and 7:50 am as doors close and learning begins at 7:50 am. 

This week the grade 5/6 students had Scientists in Schools conducting a science workshop to ignite curiosity and hands-on learning opportunities for students. 

This week we also had our Circle Friday where students focused on the Spirit To Be domain. Within their circle groups, students read the book “My Heart Fills with Happiness” by Monique Gray Smith and shared things that bring them happiness and support their well-being.  

Kindergarten Registration 

Kindergarten Registration for the 2025-26 school year begins January 11, 2025. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2025. When registering your child for school, there are several things you should consider. Our CBE Kindergarten Registration Guide can help answer many of your questions. 

Elder Shirley Hill-Hoop Dancing Residency 

We are excited to welcome Elder Shirley Hill from January 13-17. Elder Shirley (Anatsipi’kssaakii – Pretty Sound Bird Woman) is from Siksika First Nation. She is a Blackfoot storyteller and Hoop Dancer. Elder Shirley is a mother and grandmother, an Indigenous designer, artist, and dance teacher. She is passionate about sharing cultural teachings and Blackfoot history (Siksikaitsitapi – Our Way of Life) with many students. Shirley will be sharing her love of Hoop dancing with the students during her time here. Shirley loves to inspire and encourage young people to be proud of who they are; by showing compassion, caring, and kindness.  A special thank you to our School Council for funding this residency.
