Dear WDS Families, this week we showed our appreciation for our support staff during Support Staff Appreciation Week April 22-28. We were very fortunate to have Elder Anita Crowshoe teaching our Grade 3/4 classes about Blackfoot history and culture. Tuesday, April 23 was World Book Day, and we are happy to share that the students at WDS have read 3000 books from September 2023 to April 2024.
Attendance/Punctuality
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential and are expectations of the CBE. When students arrive late, it disrupts the classroom routine and frequent absences hurt learning. Please ensure that your child arrives at school between 7:50 am - 7:55 am each day at their designated doors.
Canadian Jewish Heritage Month
In May we celebrate Canadian Jewish History Month, which was established by Parliament in 2018. May is a month to recognize, appreciate and celebrate Jewish Canadians’ contributions to the country.
Asian Heritage Month
May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to reflect on and recognize the many contributions that people of Asian origin have made and continue to make to Canada. Diversity represents one of Canada’s greatest strengths and adds to the cultural fabric of our country. Over the last 2 centuries, immigrants have journeyed to Canada from East Asia, Southern Asia, Western, Central and Southeast Asia, bringing our society a rich cultural heritage representing many languages, ethnicities and religious traditions.
The people of these diverse, vibrant and growing communities have contributed to every aspect of life in Canada — from the arts and science to sport, business and government.
Spring-Time Safety Reminders
With the nicer weather on the way, we would like to share a couple of reminders to ensure that we keep everyone safe and sound. We would like to remind our families that scooters, bikes, and skateboards are not to be ridden on school property. We ask that students, parents and siblings dismount and walk all scooters, bikes, and skateboards through this area.
School Wide Spring Concert
We are delighted to extend a special invitation to you for our upcoming spring concert, "Disney Dazzle"! This evening will be a celebration of music, imagination, and the joy of beloved Disney melodies.
- Date: Thursday, May 16, 2024
- Time: Concert starts at 6:30 pm (students call time is 5:45 pm).
- Location: West Dalhousie School Gymnasium
Prepare to be "dazzled" as our students take the stage to perform an array of Disney classics, from timeless tunes that have captured hearts of generations to the latest musical gems. There will also be a performance featuring a well-known song from Universal Studios! Get ready to experience the wonder of both Disney and Universal Studios in one concert event. The students at West Dalhousie School can’t wait to share their musical learning with you.
*If you are unable to attend the evening performance, we are also offering family members the opportunity to see the dress rehearsal during school hours on May 16th. Times for this will be communicated closer to the day.
Kindergarten Registration Updates
Kindergarten registration is ongoing! Dalhousie families are encouraged to register as soon as possible. This helps significantly with school planning for next year including teacher hiring and determining the number of classes required. Call 403-777-6110 if you need support with registration.
