Dear WDS Families,

This week we had our first school council evening, thank you to all the parents/guardians that attended. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We are pleased to inform you that our school has been awarded a project grant by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) through the Artists & Education funding opportunity. This grant will bring Trickster Theatre into our classrooms, giving students a unique opportunity to explore their world through the powerful medium of theater. Through this engaging residency, students will collaborate with professional artists to create original performances that reflect their ideas, experiences, and learning.

Muffin Mixer

You are invited to the Muffin Mixer on Friday, September 19 from 7:15 am - 7:55 am in the WDS Gym.

Every year we hold a muffin mixer to welcome back our students, meet new families, and to get to know the teachers and administrative team.  Entry is $5 per family and includes a continental breakfast. Your School Council will be there to greet you in the morning and answer any questions that you may have. Come and join the fun!

Terry Fox Run

West Dalhousie School will be participating in its annual Terry Fox Run this year on Friday, September 19th. WDS has once again come together in an effort to honor the dedication of Terry Fox and his legacy of cancer research contributions. This year is the 45th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run. This year's campaign is “Finish It,” encouraging us to end the marathon against cancer that Terry started.   If you wish to donate, please follow the link to the Terry Fox Foundation Donations page and look for your child's grade team name to contribute.  https://schools.terryfox.ca/98029

Residency

The Calgary Flames Foundation will be completing a sports residency at WDS from September 22-26. For this residency, trained instructors visit schools to teach about and play floor hockey and flag football with students in a physical education setting over a three or four-day period. The primary goal is to foster a love for sports, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. To show our support for this organization we are asking students and staff to wear red or Calgary Flames clothing to school during this residency.

Meet the Teacher

We’re pleased to invite you to our upcoming Meet the Teacher event — a relaxed and informal opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, meet their teacher, and explore our school. If you have more than 1 child that attend the school, you should have time to meet all your child's teachers during 1 of the sessions.

To accommodate your schedules, we’re offering two sessions:

📅 Date: Sept 25
🕔 Session 1: 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm
🕕 Session 2: 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
📍 Location: Your child’s classroom

To ensure a meaningful experience, we will be hosting two sessions with limited bookings per time block:

  • Enhanced Educational Supports (EES), Kindergarten, and Grades 1–4 Families:
Each 1-hour block will accommodate 11 families.
  • Grades 5–6 Families:
Each 1-hour block will accommodate 15 families.

During either session, you’ll be able to:

  • Meet your child’s teacher and learn more about their classroom experience.
  • Take a self-directed tour of the school.
  • Connect with other families and staff in a casual setting.

**Meet the Teacher bookings will be open via your MyCBE on September 18 at 8:00 am.

Individual Program Plans

If your child is on an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) or in the Enhanced Educational Supports (EES) classroom, your child's homeroom teacher will be contacting parents/guardians to book a meeting time in late September or early October.
