Dear WDS Families,
This week we had OPA fun lunch, and the kindergarten class went on a field trip to Butterfield Acres. Alien Inline started on Friday and will continue until June 5. We are still in need of volunteers to help students with their equipment. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up!
Please keep an eye out in your child’s backpack for a parent letter and acknowledgment of risk form. This form must be signed and returned to the school in order for your child to participate in in-line skating.
Volunteer Appreciation
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our incredible parent volunteers. Your time, support, and contributions have made a meaningful impact on our school community and culture. We truly cannot express how grateful we are for everything you do. To show our appreciation, WDS staff and students created a special video for you. Please check your child’s Google Classroom to watch it.
Weather
Next week, we’re expecting very warm and sunny weather here in Calgary! Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the heat. This includes:
- A hat to protect from the sun
- Sunscreen applied before school
- A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
Staffing News
A special thank you to Ms. MacFarlane who stepped in and supported our Grade 1/2 students while Ms. Slaght was on leave. We welcome Ms. Slaght back to WDS on Monday.
Library News
All library books that students have signed out must be returned to Ms. May by June 6.
Kindergarten Orientation
We are excited to welcome our new 2025-2026 Kindergarten students and their families to Kindergarten Orientation Night! This special evening is designed to help families feel confident and prepared for the upcoming school year. This will take place on Thursday, May 29 at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons. The evening will include: a presentation and overview of what to expect in kindergarten, a tour of the kindergarten classroom, the opportunity to ask questions and meet our kindergarten teachers and some staff. They will also hear from WDS School Council and West Dalhousie Community Association Before and After Care program.
Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
PATs are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing. On May 28, the Grade 6 students will write ELAL PAT Part A from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
