Dear WDS Families
This week, WDS students had the opportunity to participate in a lacrosse residency taught by ELEV8 Lacrosse. This introduced our students to various techniques and skills such as shooting, passing, and catching. Students also applied those skills as they engaged in various activities and games.
St. Patrick's Day is on Monday, March 17. Feel free to wear Green!
World Down Syndrome Day is March 21. We are asking staff and students to wear mismatched socks (Rock your Socks Day) on Thursday, March 20, to raise awareness for Students with Down Syndrome and help celebrate the amazing individuals that are in our school and in our community.
Numeracy
We are very fortunate to have recently received some additional funding to support numeracy intervention for students at WDS. With this funding, we are able to have a guest teacher come in and have our Math Leader, Ms. Hettinga, work with students to support their number sense. She will also be targeting different numeracy skills and students and teachers' understanding of manipulative use and math centers.
Learning Conferences
We have our Student-Parent-Teacher Learning Conferences that will take place on March 20 and 21 “online” through Microsoft Teams. Conferences will take place on March 20 from 4:00 pm to 7:45 pm and March 21 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Families will sign up for a 15-minute block of time to meet with their child’s teacher and learn more about their child’s learning progress. To book a conference time go to MyCBE Conference Booking System. This opened on Thursday, March 13, at 8:00 am.
If you would like to meet with our Physical Educational Specialist, Ms. Polischuk, or our Music Specialist, Ms. Dickson, you can also book a time slot with them. They will have limited spots available, so book early.
*At this time, Ms. Joly is on leave, so we will postpone her March conferences for an alternate date in May. We will let you know more information in the future.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey
Every year Alberta Education conducts its annual survey of grade 4, 7, and 10 students and their parents or guardians. This survey will gather essential information about students’ and parents’ school experiences. Parents or guardians of grade 4 students should have received an email from School Improvement containing a link to the survey, along with a unique Random-Access Code and detailed instructions. We strongly encourage all eligible parents and guardians to participate and share their feedback on their children’s education. If you require a paper survey or one in another language, such as Ukrainian, Punjabi, Cree, Korean, Denesųłįné, Tagalog, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, or Urdu, please reach out to the school via email or phone. Please ensure that you complete the survey by March 21, 2025.
