Dear WDS Families

This week the School Council hosted a movie night on Thursday. We thank all the families that attended and volunteers who helped out with the event. A special thank you to our School Council who made this event such a great success. 

Clay for Kids 

We are fortunate to have Clay for Kids coming to WDS for a residency from February 3-12. Each class will be working with an artist from Clay for Kids for half a day to learn various art techniques and create either a clay project or a fused glass project. The cost for this residency is $18 per student.  

Payment for this residency can be made through your MYCBE account via credit or debit card. Please see instructions for how to do this using this link https://cbe.ab.ca/support/Pages/MyCBE-PowerSchool-Student-Fees-Registration.aspx 

If payment online is not possible, you may pay in the office via cash, credit card, or debit card. Please note that for cash payments, we can only accept the exact amount as we are unable to provide change. 

We still have a few classes who are looking for some volunteers to support the students with this residency. All volunteers must have a valid Police Security Clearance. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up using this link below.

Valentine's Day 

WDS will celebrate Valentine's Day on February 12 due to the Calgary Teacher Convention on February 13 and 14. We will be celebrating the themes of kindness, friendship, and belonging, through the sharing of Valentine’s cards at school. This is a fun and important tradition at WDS. Teachers will set aside some time in the afternoon for students to distribute Valentine’s cards to their classmates. If your child chooses to send Valentine’s notes/cards, please send one for every student in the class. Your child's teacher will email you letting you know the total number of Valentine's cards needed. 

Teachers have requested that students label the "To" section on the Valentine's card as ‘Friend’ or leave that section blank. There will be no classroom parties or sharing of food during this time. If you choose to attach candy or another item to the Valentine's card, then students will be taking those items home.
