Attendance Line: 403-777-6110 ext. 1

It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line above.

Regular school attendance has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.

We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. When students miss too much school it can cause them to fall behind academically.  Regular school attendance is an important life skill on the path to graduation and future employment.

Did you know?

  • By grade 3, students with regular attendance are more likely to read at grade level.
  • By grade 6, regular attendance is a predictor of high school completion.

West Dalhousie School operates a safety check program for all students, Kindergarten – Gr. 6. Parents of children who do not arrive at school for morning or afternoon classes (and for whom we have no prior notification of absence) are telephoned to confirm the absence.

We ask that parents call the school office at 403-777-6110, ext. “1” to advise us if your child is going to be late or absent on a particular day. This program is our way of assisting parents in ensuring that their children arrive at school safely. To further assist parents, we have an answering machine that is on at all times and will allow you to leave messages in the evening or early morning. Thank you!

When parents are picking up students for appointments during regular school hours, we request that you come directly to the office immediately upon entry to the school. Students will be dismissed from their classroom and will meet with their parents in the office. There is a binder at the front desk where students will need to be signed out. Your help in this situation would be appreciated. *In the event that someone other than the parent/s is picking up a student, the school must be notified in advance.

Safety: Emergency Information

The school maintains emergency information for each student. This file is updated every school year on Power School Student Demographic Form. Should you have a change in address, home or business phone, throughout the year, please advise the school immediately.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
